The International Children’s Orthotic Laboratory Pty Ltd (ICOL) is a specialist children’s orthotic laboratory which combines orthotic manufacture and supply with support services such as professional workshops, exercise programs (Gross Motor Skills/ Rehabilitation) and equipment sales.
ICOL manufactures foot orthoses and night splints for conditions including Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, Metatarsus Adductus, Juvenile Hallux Valgus, tip-toe walking, Over-riding and under-riding digits. Our splint designs include Ankle Foot Orthoses, Transverse Plane Metatarus Adductus Splints, Bunion Splints, Digital Splints.
ICOL is the sole licensed manufacturer of the Duvtale™ Orthoses for children with joint hypermobility.
Joint hypermobility is a connective tissue disorder which has been associated with many neuro-muscular and musculo-skeletal complaints in children. The Duvtale™ orthotic design has been based upon scientific research methods. Dr Heather Netscher, director of ICOL completed her PhD research in ‘The neuro-muscular and musculo skeletal characterization of children with joint hypermobility’. The Duvtale™ orthotic design was used in this research which identified significant differences between children with joint hypermobility and age and gender matched non-hypermobile controls in foot morphology, lower limb joint ranges of motion, muscle tone, barefoot balance and barefoot gait.
ICOL products and services can be accessed by allied health professionals within Australia and overseas. All we require is an image of the child’s feet, preferably a plaster cast or foam impression, digital photographs of the child’s resting and weight bearing alignment and key diagnostic information e.g. Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, Metatarsus Adductus, Juvenile Hallux Valgus/ Bunions, Calcaneal Apophysitis.
